Further Sample Images

These are further sample images taken for the front cover, double page spread and as smaller photos to be embedded into the text. The two images above were taken in a small bar, however, through editing and cropping the image I have created the illusion that the model is in a club on a bar. The image below was posed for in a pub - I have tried to maintain the same styling of the model throughout in order to create a real sense of character and a strong personna/realism. By asking the model to 'act drunk' and 'wild' this image below could be used as the background photo for the double page spread - although the quality is not brilliant, I feel this adds a sense of paparazzi and a celebrity-esque lifestyle.
This image was taken in the bar 'Affinity'; after asking the bouncer to pose for a photo he refused, so I then asked my model to try and get a photo with him. Although the bouncer's face is not in the image I feel as if this phot is very realistic and it actually looks as if 'Cindy Dean' is being removed from the club, which relates to my article text effectively.

These two images below were taken at 'The Venue' - although the model does not look extremely 'trashed' or out of control I feel as if the images are successful in the styling of her. She looks fake, posed and as if she is enjoying herself on a drunken night out. They way she is dressed is provocative with fake eyelashes, blonde extensions and red lipstick. I doubt that either of these will be used, yet as part of experimenting with the images these are successful in style and quality.

The image to the left may be embedded into the text as an example of a phot 'Cindy Dean' uploaded to Twitter before the start of her rampage. She looks stylised and posed and from a wealthy background sipping her drink. It could be used to contrast against the later images of her from other nights out.

The image to the right was aimed to create the impression of 'Cindy Dean' drunkenly partying. It looks as if she has been caught off guard and is stumbling around. To the left, was taken in a toilet - implying that she is intoxicated and acting in a provocative manner, losing all inhibitions. Both of these images are successful in making the model seem inebriated and out of control, relating perfectly and supporting my article.

These two images  are further samples of her drunken behaviour. Clinging onto her friends for support whilst clutching her drink implies how 'drunk' the model is acting, I feel as if the one below is particularly successful as the model looks drunk, shaken and possible high whilst her friend looks on and laughs. This could easily be used as an 'end of the night' image and shows the damage of the alcohol and drugs.

The images above are supposedly at 'the end of the night'. I feel as if these images reflect a drunken state, yet the quality is poor due to the smoke in the club. However, the one where she is lying on the table relates to the text of my article directly and adds a sense of realism. In conclusion I feel that all of these images have the possibility to be used in my practical production piece and relate to my written text (first draft).

First Article Draft

‘PICTURE EXCLUSIVE: CINDY DEAN MELTDOWN’

HEADLINE: ‘TRASHED’
- 7 hour rampage through London
- Alcohol consumption dangerously high
- Propelled into a state of drink dependency

INTOXICATED Cindy Dean lies motionless in the passenger seat of a taxi, exhausted, inebriated and potentially high on crack cocaine after an extensive club and bar crawl through the streets of London’s celebrity haunt, Mayfair. Desperately drowning her sorrows – following her Father’s death last month, Cindy’s binge drinking session lasted a staggering 7 hours, before collapsing in the early hours of yesterday morning.
A source and close friend of the ‘It Girl’ spoke of Dean’s unstable condition saying, ‘Following her Father’s death her previous socialite status has now been tarnished with consistent partying, experimenting with drugs and a lack of supportive friends’. Her father, Stephen Dean, passed away last month after losing his ongoing battle with bowel cancer; considered Cindy’s ‘rock’ who provided the emotional stability within her life, she has since struggled to come to terms with her tragic loss – seemingly using alcohol as a source of escapism. Stephen’s successful lingerie business empire propelled Cindy into fame from a young age, attending corporative events, after parties and social promotions; she has always possessed a demanding public schedule. Yet, this has recently spiralled into a state of despair, depression and emotional instability. After her mother, Melissa Woodland, walked out on Cindy as a toddler, their relationship has been stained with scandal, monetary manipulations and public scenes of dispute. Instead of turning to close friends and family, Cindy has shunned her close circle of socialites for the company of her ex-boyfriend Harry Jones and his drug abusing gang.
INTOXICATED
Dean was first spotted yesterday evening in Mayfair’s swanky club ‘Aura’, cosying up with her ex at a table smothered with champagne, wine and excessive amounts of spirits. Before setting out she had already downed copious amounts of red wine in her hotel suite. It was not long until Dean began devouring the alcohol and parading around the club clutching her second bottle of champagne. A witness said of her behaviour, ‘Money was no object, purchasing round after round of drinks for her ‘friends’ she easily polished off every last drop of champagne and vodka. Suggestively dancing on tables and draping herself over male accomplices – it was the behaviour I’d expect off a drunken 18 year old in a local club, not a prolific 22 year old from a successful family’. Dean was later removed by bouncers from Aura; yet this did not deter her, she was shortly spotted at 2AM in the Mayfair Club, consuming further alcohol and continuing her rampage. Bedraggled, drunk and barely conscious, she still managed to cling onto to another bottle of champagne, with the unnecessary encouragement of Jones. Despite her state, Dean left the club at a respectable 4AM before hailing a cab into Convent Garden. After a discrepancy with the doormen, she managed to haul herself down into the basement club Bungalow. A complete mess and fully intoxicated, she astonishingly continued consuming alcohol, and it was in this notorious drug-based club where Dean was considered to have been provided crack cocaine from her ex Harry Jones.
SCANDAL
Yet, Dean found herself embroiled in more scandal, the troubled starlet described by one onlooker as ‘belligerently drunk’ apparently grabbed the wrist of a female fan who was trying to get a snap of the socialite on her way out. Occurring on the doors of Bungalow, Covent Garden at 6AM, things escalated further when the high and intoxicated star grabbed the camera away from the woman, reportedly damaging the device. The victim said, ‘She and her people were doing shots of something all night. She looked like she was falling all over the place. She was being stupid’, yet the victim has decided not to press charges after Dean’s recent turmoil at her Father’s passing. After the incident ensued Cindy clambered into the back of a taxi with Jones; her lifeless body destroyed after the excessive drug and drink consumption.
CONCERNS
While it’s normal for any 22 year old to enjoy themselves on a night out, Cindy’s appearance last night appeared to suggest it has had a detrimental impact on her health. By consuming more than triple the daily recommended intake of units regularly she will seriously harm her health and well being. At a fragile and emotional point in her life, the last thing she needs to be doing is turning to the bottle and heavily drinking – as our picture exclusive suggests, this extensive consumption of alcohol is also damaging her image. Cindy is renowned for enjoying herself on a night out, but is cautious to be pictured in such a state, for the sake of damaging her public status. A confident of the socialite said ‘We’ve suggested rehab or therapy to help her deal with the heartbreaking loss she has suffered, yet she profoundly refuses. Our only hopes are that in time she will realise that we can provide her with the support she needs’. By gallivanting with her ex Harry; who has openly admitted to hard drug use in the past, Cindy is doing no favours to herself. We can only hope that Cindy will come to terms with her crushing loss and rebuild her life again.

Sample Pictures, Model/Location

In order to produce these images, they were shot on separate nights and at two different locations. This image was shot at 'Affinity Bar' in Bexleyheath; although the whole piece is supposed to be after a night out in Mayfair, I was able to replicate the same sort of party and social location at this club.

In order to create this image I had her pose in a 'drunken' state whilst trying to dance. I feel as if her styling here is successfull - using extensions, a short black dress and heavy makeup in order for her to resemble a wild child celebrity. Holding an empty glass and asking friends to hold her hands adds to this effect and makes her seem drunk and vulnerable. I feel as if this image will be suitable for the double page spread or front cover. The club posed in was a small one in Bexleyheath, yet when packed with people the inside could easily pass for one in Mayfair.

Furthermore, the image taken in the taxi was posed for after going to a bar; I feel as if this image may not be used in my actual piece as I was experimenting with the settings on my camera. By deciding to use black and white, I felt that it would add a more realistic and paparazzi feel - however, most images used in The Sun are in colour, with the exception of a few. I may re-take this picture on a separate occasion, but in colour to add realism.
Taken in 'Affinity Bar'
Taken in the back of a taxi
Overall, I do feel that both of these sample images hold the potential to be used in my production piece and are an effective start to the article. I may take further images, experimenting with angles and camera effects before choosing my final shots to include.

Language

Now that the layout, format and use of images has been fully analysed in order to completely replicate the design of my style model the use of the correct language is imperative. Each Sun article begins with a brief introductory paragraph (in bold) which entices, grabs and engages with the audience. The article then progresses onto details on the scandal; hence, a possible timeline of the night's events, interviews from sources, and information which puts the article into context - details on the celebrity's livlihood so the whole audience can identify with the article and relate to it, even if they neccessarily hadn't heard of 'Cindy Dean' before.

STRUCTURE:
- Introductory paragraph; opening sequence. Setting the scene (continued from the front page), text/bold font and approximately 6 lines. This must have a scandalous tone and shock audiences into continuing reading the article.
- Context paragraph; for those who haven't heard of 'Cindy Dean', this small paragraph will give background information and depth to the article so that readers can acknowledge her and the grief she has from losing her father. This will be emotive, exaggerating her party lifestyle and socialite status.
- Events paragraph; this will outline her night as she deteriorated on her club and bar crawl through Mayfair, sub headings such as 'Intoxicated' will further enhance her 'out of control' nature and there will be quotes from confidential 'sources' who were with her. This will be the bulk of the paragraph and I will add further features such as Tweets from her and a Map tracing where she partied throughout Mayfair.
-'Concern' paragraph; this final short piece will highlight the concern of her friends and family about how she has 'gone off the rails' and is struggling to cope with the loss of her father by turning to alcohol and drugs.

Model and Image Planning

I have casted and selected the model I wish to use and play the role of 'Cindy Dean'; below is a natural image of the girl and then several images of her styled to represent a 'wild child' celebrity. I chose this particular girl as her face and hair can be easily enhanced with makeup to make her resemble the image of an 'It Girl'. I tested out various make up looks and hair styles and have decided to use the look below; achieved through false eyelashes and hair extensions I will further style her in a tiny mini dress that barely covers her and stiletto heels.

Natural style

'Cindy Dean'
Below are sample pictures I have taken to begin the creation of the article. I have placed the model at various clubs and bars and asked her to pose drunkenly and seemingly intoxicated to add realism and make the piece as realistic as possible. Through her styling and image I feel that her appearance reflects one of a 'wild child' socialite - to some extent these are successful as they reflect the nature of a celebrity but I may retake some working on the realism and effect of the images.
Taken in my house (before going out), I may use this image in the article as an example of a picture that Cindy Dean 'tweeted' before going out. This can be used as negative representation for her as she is 'promoting' alcohol consumption and a wild party life. By positioning the model against golden, thick curtains I feel that this adds realism and could potentially be her house. If used in the article, a suitable caption will be required such as 'Tweeted before her 8 hour rampage through London'. I asked her to pose in a 'fake' amnner and feel that her lipstick, large wine glass, hair and clothing reflect an 'It' Girl's nature.
These two images were also posed for; the one to the left in a taxi - however, I was experimenting with effects on the camera and decided to try black and white. The one to the right was posed for in a bar. Below, this image also holds the potential to be used; asking friends to seemingly 'hold her up', the model looks intoxicated and be-draggled at the end of a night.
I feel that these images are the appropriate style and context for my article; my model resembles an intoxicated 'wild child' whose social life has fallen out of control. The shots need to be natural and paparazzi-like - there is the whole concept behind the article that she has been caught off guard on a drunken night out and the media have represented has negatively and in an exaggerated light, she is a target for negative media attention and is exploited.

Front Page Draft

Now that I have gained a clear understanding and idea of the images I intend to use and the layout/format of the front page I have begun to experiment with fonts in creating The Sun logo for the cover and have drafted my initial idea for the start of the article. Typically, the article begins on the front page and then continues onto the double spread; enticing and the audience and engaging with the reader, leaving them wanting more. Below, is my first draft of the logo and text for the article.
I feel as if for a first attempt at the logo this was successful. After scanning into the computer a copy of The Sun I then used a variety of fonts, word design and colour schemes to replicate the logo exactly and as close to the original as possible.
This is my initial draft for the text of the front page. I have tried to maintain the format of The Sun by using a text box, typical conventions and a similar tone and language format. The first piece of text must be brief, concise and engage with the reader.

Layout Diagrams

Below is the basic format and layout of my Front Cover. By using Miscrosoft Publisher I will be able to reproduce the A3 sized cover - the space dedication is clear as the image will dominate the whole page.
And here is the layout diagram for my double-page spread. The text of the article will begin on the front page and then continue into a detailed piece of text on this spread. (There will be subsequent promotions and adverts/related articles on the pages as well).
Overall, these diagrams have enabled me to have a greater sense of direction as I continue the planning of my production piece. With reference to these plans I need two main, scandalous images for the front page and the body of the article along with a smaller image to embed in the text. Furthermore, I need to plan the promotional offers and the images/text required for the two smaller articles (one on the front cover and the other on the double page spread).
