After reading, deconstructing and analysing several articles of The Sun I feel confident enough to incorporate my ideas with the typical codes and conventions of the tabloid into a replica article. The piece will be based upon my Critical Investigation in which I have explored the exploitation and destruction of 'A Listers' such as Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton, and the effect digitalisation has had upon society with reference to Marilyn Monroe. As Hilton and Lohan are consistently exposed and exploited in tabloid newspaper 'scandals' I am to create my own 'celebrity' to report on.
The article will revolve around the character 'Cindy Dean' - a London socialite who inherited fame and fortune from her late Father's profitable lingerie empire. Through her father's business contacts she has created numerous television credits and attends varying red carpet events and has created her own 'It Girl' personna.
To add a sense of reality and in order to build a three dimensional character I intend to create a full background for this 'celebrity'. After her father's death Dean spirals out of control; and her usual composed character is destroyed as she is seen stumbling out of various top celebrity clubs, bars and after parties.
After establishing this context of the 'celebrity' the actual article will revolve around photographic evidence of Cindy Dean being 'papped' in the back of a car seemingly intoxicated and in the posession of drugs. This image will have a paparazzi feel and will dominate the spread.
The article format is as follows:
Pre-Headline: 'PICTURE EXCLUSIVE:' 'Cindy Dean plummets to all new low as she is caught in the centre of a fresh drugs scandal'
Headline: 'TRASHED'
Picture: Model in the back of a car; unconcious, intoxicated and holding a cigarette
First PG (bold font): Set the scene in a dramatic tone, highlighting and exaggerating how her life has spiralled out of control after her father's death
Text then divided into several paragraphs labelled:
- Intoxicated
- Grief
- Concerns
This follows the basic format of a Sun article and relates coherently to my critical investigation concerns about the true exploitation of a celebrity within the media. Further images will be embedded into the text, ones of the model posed at 'happier' points in her life, previous drunk images, and pictures with her late father.
